• Description: In this course, students receive instruction in academic reading and writing, including writing processes, effective use of language, analytical thinking, and the foundations of academic research., , Techniques of writing will focus on expository and argumentative writing based on critical reading and thinking about texts. Reading will focus primarily on works of non-fiction prose, chosen to represent a broad spectrum of opinions and ideas, writing styles, and cultural experiences.
• Prerequisite: Placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process.
• Corequisite:
• Advisory: Advisory: Demonstrated proficiency in English by placement via multiple measures OR through an equivalent placement process OR completion of ESLL 125 & ESLL 249; for students who do not meet the prerequisite requirement, concurrent enrollment in ESLL 201A or NCEN 401A is recommended, depending on placement by multiple measures; not open to students with credit in ENGL 1A, 1AH, 1T, or C1000H.
