海角社区 partners with local trade unions to offer registered apprenticeship programs in plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal, and electrical trades. These programs combine paid, hands-on training with classroom instruction, preparing you for state certification and long-term career success.

A state registered apprenticeship includes:

  • On-the-job learning
  • Classroom and lab learning through a community college or Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (ROCP)

Apprenticeship programs can run from 1 to 5 years or more.

No. Apprentices start at about one-third of a journeyman鈥檚 wage, with scheduled increases. Wages and standards are approved by the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS). Apprentices also receive benefits and are trained in designated work processes essential to the trade.

Yes. Employers specify what skills must be taught. Classroom and lab instruction, called Related and Supplemental Instruction (RSI), supports skills the apprentice will use immediately on the job. Apprentices take about 145 hours of RSI per year.

Yes. If the program鈥檚 RSI courses are credit-approved, apprentices can earn certificates and associate degrees by completing general education requirements.

No. Apprentices often use employer training facilities and equipment, which reduces costs for colleges and supports more high-demand training opportunities.

No. Both union and merit shop apprenticeship programs operate through community colleges and follow the same state standards.

Apprentices enrolled at Foothill are exempt from student fees.

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 or older.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency for safety and comprehension.
  • Have a valid California driver鈥檚 license and transportation.

Contact one of the training locations listed under Apprenticeship Contacts to schedule an appointment and complete an application (bring a valid ID and high school transcript). Applicants must pass an entry exam and an oral interview to be accepted.

Once accepted, apprenticeship training staff will assist you with the 海角社区 enrollment process.
